The old church of the Convent [Convento del Valle], the plot of its cloisters and the gardens define a different space at present relative to their origin of the 15th century. The aim of this project is to recover these urban spaces. The idea is to create a B I G U R B A N S P A C E with a very simple emotional act without forgetting its function.
The new House of the Brotherhood completes and recovers the historical plot of the Convent of the 15th century. The new cloisters have been designed thinking in the gothic buttresses. Our new buttresses will have its old structural function and will define the elevation which will complete the old convent using the same lime mortar that has been already used in this construction.
Although the passing of the time is irrecoverable, there is the necessity to show the authenticity of the materials, the vitality of those objects that has no function at present and the energy with which they are in contact. The project tries to recover the space as it was built in the 15th century. A new relation between the construction and the public space has been designed. It will be a new place to be lived both for daily life and cultural events.
